The embroidery Something New is based on the artist’s spontaneous drawings—records of moments when her body or mind found itself in a particular state. Šťastná understands the process of embroidery as a return to that moment: stitch by stitch, she approaches it again, bringing it back to life and gently nurturing it. This slow, meditative rhythm lends the resulting works depth and a quiet intensity.
About author
Kateřina Šťastná (*1993) belongs to the young generation of artists. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Her work has long focused on physicality. She is interested in the relationship that arises at the moment of inhalation between our body and the space that surrounds it. Her work ranges from drawing to bead embroidery and sculpture. Her work radiates both fragility and strength.
