The embroidery In the Subway is based on the author’s spontaneous drawings – records of moments when her body or mind found themselves in a certain state. Šťastná sees the process of embroidery as a return to this moment – stitch by stitch, she approaches it again, bringing it to life and nurturing it. This slow, meditative rhythm gives the resulting works depth and quiet intensity.
About author
Kateřina Šťastná (*1993) belongs to the young generation of artists. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Her work has long focused on physicality. She is interested in the relationship that arises at the moment of inhalation between our body and the space that surrounds it. Her work ranges from drawing to bead embroidery and sculpture. Her work radiates both fragility and strength.
